Our Story

Iron River Armory started as a weathered bench and a stack of unfinished receivers. My father, a toolmaker by trade and a competitive shooter by passion, saw a gap between what was offered off-the-shelf and what a serious shooter actually needed. In 1998, we hung our first shingle in a converted garage with a single milling machine and a handshake guarantee.

I'm Travis Caldwell. I grew up in that garage, learning how to bed a rifle action before I could drive. After spending eight years as lead armorer instructor for the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, I saw how real-world duty demands intersect with competition-grade craftsmanship. I came back home to apply that lesson here.

Our selection isn't just large—it's purpose-built. You'll find workhorse mil-spec AR platforms ready for hard use, custom match-grade rifles with tolerances measured in thousandths, a curated wall of proven-production and high-end 1911s, and field-ready shotguns you can trust in a duck blind or on a home-defense course. We're one of the few dealers in the region authorized for Class 3 NFA items, from suppressors to short-barreled rifles.

Every custom AR that ships from Iron River has been assembled on my bench. Every trigger is pulled, every bolt cycled, every optic mount torqued to spec. We test what we sell. That's non-negotiable.
